Why is my purchase declined?

Your CIMB Debit Card transaction may be declined for several reasons. Here’s what you can check:

 

  • Insufficient Funds: Your CIMB Current/-i, Savings/-i, or Investment Account/-i that is linked to the CIMB Debit Card may not have enough balance. Make sure you have enough funds by adding money to your account before making a purchase.
 
  • Pre-Authorisation Holds: Transactions at petrol stations or hotels may temporarily hold a portion of your funds, reducing your available balance. Top up your account if needed.
 
  • Daily Spending Limit Reached: If your transaction exceeds your set daily limit, you can adjust it via a CIMB ATM, CIMB Clicks Website, or CIMB OCTO App.
 
  • Point-of-Sale (POS) Function Disabled: If in-store purchases are declined, your POS function may be turned off. Reactivate it at any CIMB ATM or CIMB branch nationwide.
 
  • Overseas Transactions Disabled: If you're overseas, ensure the Overseas Flag is activated. You can enable it via a CIMB ATM, CIMB Clicks, a CIMB branch, or by calling us:

  • Online & Remote Transactions Disabled: Non-3D Secure, mail order, or telephone transactions may be blocked. Call us to enable these features:
